standstill. Trains refused to move and the people in them sat in the dark, powerless to do
anything. Lifts stopped working, so that even if you were lucky enough not to be
trapped between two floors, you had the unpleasant task of finding your way down
hundreds of flights of stairs. Famous streets like Broadway and Fifth Avenue in an

When most people think about changing their body shape, they usually focus on
just losing weight. Books and magazines about dieting are among the most popular in
the world. Aerobics, which involves jumping and stretching exercises to strengthen the
heart and lungs, is also popular, especially with women.
But neither of these two methods can help shape the body. To do this, you need to
build muscle. So if a firmer, shapelier body is your goal, you should have 60 percent of
strengthening moves in your exercise routine, and only30 percent for aerobic exercise.
For a proper body-shaping routine, you should plan three strength-training
sessions a week with weights. Use weights which are as heavy as possible while
allowing you to do 8 to 12 reps of each exercise. Do one to three exercises for each
muscle group. Each session should focus on two or three muscle groups – for example,
chest and biceps, or back, shoulders and triceps.
 1. What is the best title of the passage?
 A. Changing Your Body Shape B. Dieting
 C. How to Become A Model D. Strengthening-training Ways
 2. What do people focus on when they think of changing their body shape?
 A. Dieting B. Losing weights C. Gaining weights D. Aerobics
 3. If you want to have a shapelier body, your exercise should be .
 A. 30 % of strengthening moves, 60 % of dieting
 B. 30 % dieting, 60 % of jumping
 C. 60 % of strengthening moves, 30 % of aerobics exercises
 D. 60 % of strengthening moves, 30 % dieting
 4. What does the word proper most nearly mean?
 A. social B. appropriate C. bad D. strong
