 LANGUAGE FOCUS Unit 10: Language focus
 I. Modal verbs: may and might
 Form: S + may / might + V.inf
Example: It may be a book or it might be a game.
 Nú cú thể là một quyển sỏch hoặc sẽ cú thể là một đồ chơi.
 Use:
 •May / Might được dựng để diễn tả điều gỡ đú
 cú thể là thật hoặc cú khả năng xảy ra.

 It may be a box of crayons

II. Conditional sentences type 1: (caõu ủieàu kieọn loaùi 1)
 Form: - If clause, + Main clause
 - Main clause + If clause 
 - If clause: (Simple present tense)
 - Main clause (simple future tense)
 will/can/may + V-(inf)
 Use: Diễn tả sự việc cú thật hoặc cú thể
 xảy ra ở hiện tại và tương lai.
 Example:
 If Ba forgets his lunch, he’ll be hungry at lunch time.

 2. Complete the sentence. Use the verbs in the box
 rain / not go out join / finish write / not forget
 not be / drop miss / not hurry
a. If it rains this evening, I won’t go out.
b. Lan will miss the bus if she ..does not hurry
c. If Ha is not careful, he ..will drop the cup
d. Mrs. Nga .will join us if she .. . finishes her work early.
e. If Mrs. Binh ..writes a shopping list, she ..will not forget what

III. Conditional sentences type 2: (caõu ủieàu kieọn loaùi 2)
 Set the scene: 
 Ba is not rich so he can’t travel around the world.
 If Ba were rich, he would travel around the world.
 Form:
 If clause: S + were / V.ed (quỏ khứ giả định)
 Main clause: S + would / could + V.inf
 Note: Dựng “were” cho tất cả cỏc chủ ngữ
 Use: Dựng để diễn tả sự việc khụng cú thật hoặc 
 Khụng thể xảy ra ở hiện tại và tương lai. Unit 10: Language focus
