I. GRAMMAR
1. MAKING SUGGESTIONS 
a/ S + suggest + V-ing...
Eg: I suggest going swimming.
 Nam suggests playing soccer.
b/ S + suggest + that + S+ should + V...
Eg: They suggest that everyone should save electricity.
 People suggest that the government should improve the education system.
2. ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS (Tính từ và trạng từ)
a. Tính từ (adjective) là từ được dùng để miêu tả tính chất, trạng thái của người, vật hoặc sự việc. Tính 
từ thường đứng sau động từ liên kết (be, look, become, seem ) để bổ nghĩa cho chủ từ hoặc đứng trước 
danh từ để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ.
 Ex: Everybody was happy. He is a good soccer player.
b. Trạng từ (adverb) là từ được dùng để diễn đạt cách thức, mức độ, thời gian, nơi chốn, v.v. Trạng từ 
được dùng để bổ nghĩa cho động từ, tính từ hoặc một trạng từ khác.
* Trạng từ thể cách mô tả cách sự việc xảy ra hoặc được làm.
 Ex: She slowly opens the door.
 Trạng từ thể cách thường được thành lập bằng cách thêm - ly vào sau tính từ:
 Ex: bad → badly
 - Tính từ tận cùng bằng -ful, thêm -ly: careful → carefully
 - Tính từ tận cùng bằng phụ âm + y, đổi y thành i rồi thêm -ly: happy → happily
 - Tính từ tận cùng bằng -ic, thêm -ally: basic → basically
 - Tính từ tận cùng bằng phụ âm + -le, đổi -le thành -ly: terrible → terribly
Một số trường hợp đặc biệt: 
 good (adj.) → well (adv) late (adj.) → late (adv) 
 fast (adj.) → fast (adv) hard (adj.) → hard (adv)
 early (adj.) → early 
 Lưu ý: Tính từ bổ nghĩa cho chủ ngữ hoặc danh từ đứng sau nó; trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ hoặc 
tính từ đứng sau nó.
 Ex: Jane is a good teacher. She teaches well.
3. ADJECTIVES + THAT CLAUSE
 Một số tính từ chỉ cảm giác có thể có một mệnh đề theo sau: sure, sorry, afraid, pleased, delighted 
Eg: I am pleased that you want to know more.
 We are delighted that you passed your English exam.
4. CONDITIONAL SENTENCES 
Type 1. 
Câu điều kiện loại một hay còn gọi là câu điều kiện có thật ở hiện tại chỉ một khả năng có thể xảy ra ở 
hiện tại hoặc tương lai.
 If clause main clause
 Simple present S + will/must/can + V...
Eg: If she comes back, I will phone you right away.
5. CONNECTIVES
- AND: Dùng để nối hai thành phần cùng loại của câu (danh từ, động từ, tính từ, trạng từ....)
eg: He has a house and a dog.
- BUT: được dùng để giới thiệu một từ, cụm từ hay một mệnh đề tương phản lại từ, cụm từ, mệnh đề 
đã được nói trước trong câu. 
Eg: By the end of day he was tired but happy.
 We were tired but we had to work. - HOWEVER: Được dùng để giới thiệu một câu tương phảnvới những gì đã nói trước đó. Nó có thể 
đứng đầu câu hoặc tách ra giữa câu bằng hai dấu chấm phẩy.
eg: He was feeling bad. He went to work, however, and tried concentrate.
- OR: +được dùng nêu lên một khả năng khác của các thành phần cùng loại trong câu.
Eg: Is it a boy or a girl?
+ Được dùng trong câu phủ định khi đề cập đến hai hay nhiều thứ khác nhau.
Eg: He can’t read or write.
- SO: + Dùng để chỉ lí do.
Eg: I felt sleepy so I went to bed.
+ Dùng để chỉ kết quả.
Eg: We didn’t hear anything from him so we began to feel worried.
- THEREFORE: Dùng để giới thiệu kết quả hợp lô-gíc của một cái gì đó được đề cập đến trước đó.
Eg: He’s busy; therefore he can’t help you.
6. Adverb clauses of concession: (though,although, even though
 though
 although + Clause
 even though
eg: Although/though it rained heavily, they went out with their friends.
 Even though you don’t like me, I will be here with you.
7. PHRASAL VERBS
- Turn off: Please turn off the light.
- Turn on: Would you mind if I turn on the TV?
- Look for: What are you looking for?
- Look after: Don’t worry about me. I can look after myself.
- Go on: Why don’t you go on with your study?
8. RELATIVE PRONOUN AND RELATIVE CLAUSE
* Defining and non-defining:
- Mệnh đề định nghĩa là mệnh đề cần phải có để xác định nghĩa cho từ đứng trước nó.
Eg: The woman who sang here last night has gone away.
- Mệnh đề “Who sang here last night” là một mệnh đề xác định nghĩa cho “the woman” và không thể 
thiếu được trong câu nếu bỏ nó đi thì sẽ không biết được người phụ nữ ấy là ai. Mệnh đề “Who sang 
here last night” được gọi là mệnh đề xác định.
- Mệnh đề bổ túc đứng sau một từ đã được xác định .Nó chỉ bổ túc thêm nghiã cho từ đứng trước nó và 
nếu bỏ đi thì nghĩa của câu vẫn rõ như thường. Mệnh đề này thường được tách bởi hai dấu phẩy.
Eg: My father, who is a tailor, is interested in fashion.
- Which: dùng cho vật hoặc con vật làm chủ ngữ hoặc bổ túc từ.
Eg: I like the book which is about dolphins.
- Who: Dùng cho người làm chủ từ hoặc bổ túc từ.
Eg: The student who won in the English Speaking contest is Nam
- Whom: Dùng cho người làm bổ túc từ. Ngày nay ta có xu hướng dùng “who” thay cho “whom”
Eg: The man whom you met yesterday is my uncle.
- Whose: Dùng để thay thế cho tính từ chỉ sở hữu chỉ người, vật.
Eg: I know the man. Lan’s house is big.
=> I know the man whose house is big.
- That: Dùng cho cả người và vật , làm chủ từ củng như bổ túc từ.
Eg: The man that you met yesterday is my uncle.
* Bắt buộc phải dùng “that” khi nó thay thế cho danh từ có tính từ so sánh ở bật nhất( the best,...) 
everybody, anybody,.....

 Tropical rain forests are found in Amazon region of South America, central America, Africa, and 
South and Southeast Asia. Rain forests are very important to the world’s climate. The Amazon rain 
forest alone receives about 30 to 40 % of the total rainfall on the earth and products about the same 
percentage of the world’s oxygen. Some scientists believe that the decreasing size of rain forests will 
affect the climate on the earth, making it uncomfortable or even dangerous for life. Saving our rain

 Kobe is a major commercial port city in Japan, the capital of Hyogo Prefecture, southwestern 
Honshu Island, on Osaka Bay, near the city of Osaka. Local agricultural production includes rice and 
other grains, fruits and vegetables, and tea. Shipbuilding and production of rubber goods are of primary 
importance to the city. Chemicals, machinery, railway cars, electrical equipment, textiles, refined 
sugar, flour, and sake are also produced here. Behind the narrow coastal site of the city are the Rokko 
Mountains, on which there are hot springs and suburban residences and hotels. The city did not become 
important until the 1860s, when Japan was opened to foreign trade.
On January 17, 1995, a strong earthquake struck below Awaji Island across the bay from Kobe. It was 
the most deadly earthquake to hit Japan since 1923. The quake caused buildings and bridges to collapse 
and fires broke out throughout the city. In all, about 5,000 people died and more than 21,000 people 
were injured. More than 30,000 buildings were damaged by the quake and resulting fires, and hundreds 
of thousands were left homeless.

 John Baines is an environmentalist. He is interested in all things to do with the environment and the 
need to protect it. Two years ago, he got his bicycle out of the garage and repaired it, and now he uses 
it as much as possible. He uses his car less. He tries to do ten percent fewer miles every year, so last 
year he drove eleven thousand miles, and this year he's going to try to do only ten thousand. This 
doesn't mean he travels less, this means he walks more. When he does shopping, he always walks 
now. He uses public transport when he can, usually going by bus. His car runs on unleaded petrol 
because it's cheaper and it keeps the air cleaner. About in the home, he saves as much as he can. He 
doesn't throw rubbish away. He has different bags for different things. One bag has all the cans going 
into it, from the cat food to the beer. The second bag has all the papers going into it, and the third bag 
has bottles such as oil bottles, wine bottles. But the milk bottles still go on the doorsteps so that they 
can be reused. He takes these bags to places where they can be recycled.
